Day 2

I am.... Melissa Montgomery, an encourager, who is willing to listen and find amusement in the most difficult situations. I care about people and am not afraid to work toward common goals in any task. To improve the professional image of myself I have to have a better attitude about my library. It is such a beautiful place and I am focusing too much on all that is needed instead of all the positives that are already there. I also want to make the building more appealing to the community and help them to understand all that the library offers. Today, I was reminded that I represent the library, when I am in the building, but also in the community.

  1. Remember the library's image starts with us. If we focus on the negative, others will see the negative.

Here's a true story. I got to looking at what I thought was just a capped recessed light by the front door. Nothing unusual about it, until I noticed that the black cover said "Maxwell House." I asked a staff member to carefully examine the exterior because I just knew she would see the same thing I did. She didn't. It wasn't until I pointed out the words "Maxwell House" that she noticed it. Now she sees the flaw every time she goes in or out that door.
